Now the Elephants will face DR Congo, which defeated Guinea 3-1 in the quarterfinal for its first win of the tournament. The Leopards drew all three of their group-stage matches before defeating Egypt in the last 16 on penalties.
The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals take place in midweek with hosts Ivory Coast looking to continue their rollercoaster run against DR Congo.
The Elephants sacked their manager after losing their final group game 4-0 yet squeezed into the knockouts, before interim coach Emerse Fae led them to a tense penalty shootout win over Senegal.
But that was nothing compared to the drama of their quarter-final win over Mali, delivered by a 90th-minute Simon Adringra equaliser before Oumar Diakite turned home the winner in stoppage time of extra time.
Now they face a DR Congo side which has flown under the radar in their bid to lift a third AFCON on home soil.
The Leopards drew all three of their group games before knocking out Egypt on penalties, and they finally won a match in 90 minutes by confidently dispatching Guinea in the last round.

Ivory Coast vs DR Congo is scheduled for an 8pm GMT kick-off on Wednesday, February 7, 2024.
The match will take place at Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan.

Willy Boly is most likely to step in for Kossounou in defence whereas Sebastien Haller may finally be fit to start having overcome an ankle injury.
Brentford forward Yoane Wissa is set to start for DR Congo, who have Gael Kakuta back from injury.
The winner of this match will face either Nigeria or South Africa in the final.
